Hünegg Castle is one of the few witnesses of Historicism and Jugenstil in Switzerland whose decor has remained unchanged since 1900. The stately building was constructed between 1861 - 1863 by the Berlin architect Heino Schmieden, who, at the age of only 25 years, erected his rich debut in the style of the Renaissance castles along the Loire. His clients were the Prussian Baron A.E.O. von Parpart and his wife A.S.M. von Bonstetten.
In 1900, the new owner G. Lemke-Schuckert from Wiesbaden renovated several rooms in the Jugendstil style. The renowned furniture company Bembe in Mainz designed the décor, which still adorns the rooms today. Visitors to the museum feel as though they are guests in a stately home above Lake Thun, where the former residents could return at any moment.
