Hünegg Castle is set in a carefully designed park, which was originally about 6 hectares in size. A timbered brick house can be seen to the west of the park, which was originally the gardener and caretaker's house and is now in private hands. Today, the park comprises 5.35 hectares, corresponding to more than seven football fields. It is open to the public throughout the year.
A forecourt is located at the castle entrance and is bounded by a pergola with a central fountain. This houses the cafeteria in fine weather. A fountain and semi circular bandstand is located nearby on the lawns. Close to the lakeshore stands a miniature house, which dates back to the castle's construction in 1865. A viewing pavilion (now the Cultural Pavilion) constructed by later owner Gustav Lemke-Schuckert in the form of chalet and with a restored, integrated icehouse can be seen on the highest part of the park.
Magnificent views of Lake Thun and the Alps can be enjoyed from the castle terrace, framed by the park's many bushes and tall trees, which that grow luxuriantly in the mild, temperature-regulating lakeside climate. Numerous exotic trees, including sequoias, cedars of Lebanon and false cypresses were planted here around 1860, and can still be seen today. The original paths through the park have also been largely retained.
We would be happy to provide a guided tour through the park!
